Gold farming at the beginning of the game

What do you think about one guy from the team going gold farming and leaving rest of the team fighting on their own?

Because I played a game and this one dude just killed those forest npcs for the whole beginning of the game. So we ended up having 2v2 on bottom, 1v1 mid and 1 v 2 on top. Now we lost horribly and this dudes gold farming didn't really pay off and up was lost because 1 coudn't hold both of them. Well actually we won that, but because enemy team got careless and didn't really defend their base and those little creeps destroyed their Palace.

I thought it was really shit plan, but maybe theres something to it?

It can work. The thing is you need to know your roles there (Radiant side)
Top: You will be doing a solo-lane. Your job is to get experience, don't even go for last hits unless you KNOW with 100% certainity you will not die.

Every other lane is the same, with the exception of the Jungler. He will get farm and he will assist in ganks for bottom and mid. The Strength of the jungler is the ability to turn bottom into a tri-lane or a 4-man lane if mid comes to gank. If you jungle is staying in the jungle the whole game and isn't your hard carry then he isn't doing his job well. The strength of this is that 4-people on your team can get farm instead of the usual 3. You will LOSE your lain top, but you should win the other two and overall the game.

It's situational. Not all heroes can do it, and not all heroes who can do it should do it all the time.

If your team is capable of fighting effectively 4-5, even if it's defending your own towers or it's kind of a stalemate with even kills, then you are winning as long as your hard carry is farming.

As soon as it looks like the other team will get an advantage killing your team faster than you can get an advantage farming neutrals, then you need to stop farming and start fighting.

Top was lost because 2 on 1 was too much. And that's what I was thinking. Top tower got destroyed and hero killed multiple times because of too difficult enemy. We won the round just because they didn't pay too much attention to their own base. If it had lasted for like 2 mins more we would have lost bad, team vs team we had no way of winning. The farmer was playing Axe(not me).
