Graphics look great, but it's probably separately rendered.

Check out Crysis 3, might even be better than BF4's.

Yeah, games being more like movies is cool to a point, but I'm not paying $60 for a movie ticket.

Playing a game for the graphics is like watching porn for the plot.

1. Pirates had an awesome plot
2. Sometimes pretty graphics are just the fucking bacon on top of the amazing burger that is your game.

Yes.

Eugene is the man.

When it comes to PC games I am expecting them to use everything I have and some more. Max it out and go for the ultra realistic graphics. Push the system to the limits, because why else spend so much money on computer when you can buy console.

But you can always play your BF42 mod Desert Combat and screw the BF2 and BF3+BF4. It's your loss. I would rather take my graphics + gameplay.

BF is a multiplayer game, but because players now want the full package Dice has the do this. Singleplayer is just a thing where reviewing sites can say singleplayer and has multiplayer is worth your money! This video is nothing to make up your mind about new Battlefield.

But again if you want to see those graphics now buy Crysis 3 and you can have them. Even next gerneration consoles can't come close to it.

I love games that have amazing graphics, but if they try to make a turd enjoyable by polishing it... well, that shit won't fly.

I find BF2 and 3, and their spin offs, to be hollow shells of graphics.

Imagine the graphics of BF2, but instead of using your GFX card to do all the work, you use your processor. Imagine every game with smart AI flooding down upon you while you fight along side your teammates. A battlefield of 100s of players/comp on both sides. AI that change their strats based on how the battlefield is playing out.

The battlefield series has a chance to make some amazing games, but they stick with their graphics.

Overall, my point is not to bash the series, but point out that they could do so much more and improve gameplay tenfold.

The graphics are technically great and it's hard to complain. Still, realism is a tired look in modern games. Abstract shit is more interesting.

BFBC2 gameplay > BF3 gameplay

I agree, it's much more important that graphics...I want a multi-player walk through, and screw the single player waste of time... bots will never be 1/2 as interesting as humans.

TF2 still looks shiny and attractive and it's nearly six years old. Clever art direction and creativity can be powerful forces. Minecraft is still the prime example. It doesn't have 'bad' or 'old' graphics, it has 'stylized' graphics. Between Minecraft and Mount & Blade alone, there is enough evidence that there are legions of players out there looking for something special to really get involved in and the wrapper that that candy comes in doesn't matter. All of my game design convictions stem from that belief.

The last watershed moment in video games was the Wii and how it made motion control tech a mainstream feature after two decades of failed gimmickry (go look up the Sega Activator or the Nintendo Power Glove if you don't remember them). Hell, rail shooters made a comeback this past decade after the accessories to play them because standard issue. In spite of what the Wii has accomplished, so many 'hardcore gamers' sneered at it and went on doing what they had always done because they didn't know any better. I swear that sometimes 'hardcore' is just a euphemism for fanaticism to the point of ignorance. Hardcore isn't buying one genre of game and biting your thumb at everything else. To me, hardcore is owning a Virtual Boy or Sega CD. Hardcore is the kid who used folding chairs to cheat at Track & Field on the NES. Hardcore is playing a ten year old fighting game because the last three installments haven't been as balanced as that one.

I could rant all day and night about how modern game consumers often have sensibilities that run against the grain of traditions and the old thirst for creativity, but there's no point. In every arena, you have nitwits and they usually have checkbooks and their publications to help them punch above their weight. Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, I say. The rest of us have the Virtual Console and perspective.
