So, our servers are currently a couple versions below the most recent for HLstatsX. The most obvious effect of this is that a bunch of newer weapons are not properly displayed, these three for example:

There are also less noticeable things tied to that. Any weapons without an image also lack any kind of daily awards system for most kills, and there are no point modifiers for these weapon, so e.g. you earn twice as many points for a kill with most spy knives than with the Spycicle, or with the standard Demoman bottle than with the rum bottle or katana.

Also, there have been a few extra actions that are tracked in the new versions, like burning teammates extinguished with Mad Milk.

I've talked to our server host and it seems are options are thus:

--Have our server host do a fresh install of the newest version, losing all stats tracked to date
--Ignore it and not update
--I can attempt to incrementally update it manually

Option 3 is the best IMO since then we don't lose all the current stats, but if it goes wrong then we probably will anyway. Razz

The host says they won't do an incremental update, only a fresh install, because they're too lazy and don't want to actually work for the money we're paying them (they claim it requires an "intense amount of hands on time" even though it's just stopping a few things, running an auto-update script, and restarting... and all that could be automatic anyway if they did it).

I think me updating it will mostly work, but it requires stopping the software on the stats server, and we only have permission to restart it rather than stop it... if we can overwrite it while running and then restart it should probably be fine though. If not it likely won't fuck anything up anyway, but on the off chance something goes really wrong then we're still risking losing the stats.

So, how important are the current stats to you all? Is it worth taking a risk of clearing them to try to improve the future stats?

Wow, talk about them being ridiculously lazy.

Though it's up to others, I am curious as if you guys did do the fresh install, what would be a way to prevent you from having to redo that in the future?

A fresh start could be nice. I'm sure Junk needs more incentive to stay number one anyway.

Stats dont really matter to me. 'cause I know I'm the best around regardless of what the numbers say.

Keep in mind that chances are we won't have to start fresh -- I think that if I update it, it will probably work, and if it doesn't, it probably won't break. It's just a small risk that it'll happen. Though if it doesn't work, but doesn't break, we'll still have a decision to make.

Either option is cool with me, I've never really valued my stats much anyway (though I always thoroughly enjoyed the victims list, hah).

It seems like most people don't care much or even like the idea of a reset, so I guess I'll go ahead and try the update and hope for the best, and have them wipe it and update if that doesn't work.

I actually kinda like the idea of starting fresh too, but I'm of mixed opinion. The rankings are currently a bit meaningless since they're closely correlated with total playing time, but it's also cool to have records of everything that happens.

That's one more thing that bugs me about how they handle it... there will obviously be lots more updates to the stats software, because TF2 is always getting new weapons shoveled in. So if it turns out that I can't update it myself (or for all their customers who can't figure it out, even if I can), do they just expect people to choose between not updating or dealing with having it wiped everytime a new version comes out?

Just did the updates and it looks like it all worked out. At the very least it shows all the weapons correctly now and should award extra points for the newer melee weapons properly... we'll know if awards and such for the new stuff is working in a day or two.

Would there ever be a way to include medics? Or is there already a way to get some points under medic in HLstats that I just havn't realized besides going battle medic or catching someone with a saw every now and then?

You get points for medic assists on HLStatX.
For example I have points for:

Kill Assist-Medic
Ubercharge
Extinguished Teammate (medic)
