I saw Predators last Friday night and am just getting around to getting the word out now.

As you probably can discern from the trailers, the plot of this movie is a radical break away from Predator lore. Instead of coming to Earth to fight its most dangerous species, the titular creatures gather up the most dangerous individuals they can muster and release them on a lush planet of their choosing for sport, not unlike the short story The Most Dangerous Game. I won't get into details because it's so easy to spoil little things in a film of this type.

The plot is dirt simple, which is pretty standard for these films, but what makes this one appealing is that it allows character interaction to fuel the film. Each of the humans selected as prey is there for a reason, be it a deadly talent or a simple propensity for violence. These quirks make them interesting and makes it easy for you to see them as a group (Predator) instead of just a lineup of slasher victims (Predator 2). The best part of the movie is the pacing of the first act. The film takes its time setting up and building. Bear in mind, the first Predator movie didn't knock off Poncho until we were all well into the film. This is a wonderful thing since Predators is chilling in a way that Predator 2 failed to be.

If there are drawbacks to this film, it is of course certain plot holes. Science fiction movies are full of general lapses in reason, so most are forgivable. You will get the sense that more questions are raised than answered, which is a little bit frustrating. The one thing that I can't forgive is the pacing of Act Three. If I stop and wonder to myself in the middle of a movie how much longer it's going to take to finish up, I dock points, as I should. That's not to say that it was not an enjoyable movie. It was very much in the spirit of the first one in the series and that's a good start for getting a franchise back on track. Fans of the series will definitely find alot here to like. I loved it, personally, and give it a strong B+ or three stars. I'm not sure if the average viewer will want to own it on home video as soon as it comes out, but there's no reason you shouldn't see it in the theater with your geek friends. In fact, I insist.

I saw this a few days after it came out. Fortunately or unfortunately, I had a mix of energy drinks x2 and other chemicals in my body that made focusing quite hard. However, it stars Adrian Brody and co-stars Adrien Brody's gigantic nose. That had much of my attention.

Other than that, I loved it. i'm a huge Predator fan and it pretty much hit the tone for the first one in my opinion. Also, I love using the words at the end of the movie in a dramatic situation.

"Lets get the fuck off this planet."
