For my major, I need to take 2 Animation courses next semester (and I'm basically done with that) and they like to break everything down into subgroups. But, it makes it hard since I want to know everything...

3D Effects Animation (Particle Animaiton)
3D Lighting and Rendering
Character Animation
Technical Direction for Animation (Rigging)

Decisions.... Decisions...

I feel so cheated with my education. All of the above are things I had to learn on my own. I still suck at adjusting my rigs too.

I had a good teacher for animation. I built a robust rig for a custom charactrer with pretty robust functionality.

Stealth, I recommend you take the lighting and rendering first. Then you will be better able to appreciate (and present) the work you do in the other courses. I think anyway...

Well I like to present my work with a nice quality, but I'm basically an animator. And for the demo reels animators use, it's typically just a basic character that they spend time with and it's rarely rendered. Unless I'm like doing object animation like with the vending machine. However, it looks so kick ass!

I know for 100% I want Technical Direction for Animation because not a lot of people rig. It's long, boring and no one wants to do it and I've been pretty comfortable doing the tasks no one wants to do. So if it gets me a job, then hellz yea!

Then with the Particle animation, I will learn how to animate hard objects that I've never done before like cloth, water, clouds etc. I heard it requires some careful fine tuning and some serious rendering abilities because you just see these dots move and don't know the color or specular of what goes on. So I think that if I take the particle effects, I'd learn more rendering from there,

Character Animation is probably the least profitable for me just because I feel like I'm decent with animating any type of character.

Tis why it's hard for me to choose Laughing

From the looks of it, I'll be taking 3D lighting and rendering and 3D effect animation.

From the course list, the other classes are not offered next semester Confused

Least it was a simple decision I suppose.

Bear in mind that presentation and animation are two totally different jobs with most studios. You'll be hired to either make a scene, or to animate things. It's best to master one of them first so you have some clout when it comes time to apply for jobs.
