Top Reply with quote

I am interested in seeing if anyone has any good resources (tutorials, guides, etc) for Photoshop / GIMP. I am looking to try my hand at some more basic stuff this year as an artistic outlet, and a lot of people ask me about Photoshop / GIMP all the time.

Feel free to post sites with tutorials, but I am looking mainly for INDIVIDUAL tutorials and guides that get you started with the basics. It would be nice if we can get a repository going, or even if CT was able to publish their own collection.

I know Vlad Piranha posted something on here once upon a time of how to trace things using the pen tool, or something.

I use this site for all of my photoshop tutorials.

http://psdtuts.com/

Some of the tutorials are only for people who are paying members but a lot of them are free. Very good and very helpful.

^ Has a ton load of other programs as well.

Photoshop is extremely easy to use. It has a nice, common-sense layout to it and it's very powerful.

I just downloaded CS3 on Limewire in 30 minutes time. PS is extremely accessible, and powerful to boot.

There's a fuckload of knowledge between our members. We should start making tutorials Razz

Yeah. Trav and I decided we wanna try our hand at GIMP because it's free and no-BS: if I have to do some photo editing for some serious biz, I can't always pull out my pirated warez.

If you want CS3, I can upload it to the site or find another way if it'll kill the bandwidth.

the more now versions of gimp that come out, the better it gets

ive used it in place of PS in school, just to make myself learn it... it acts a little funny in some aspects, but once you get used to the quirks, its every bit as good as PS, has more community support & free filters & such, and can do just about anythin g PS can with a 10th of the memory overhead

that said, i still use CS3 -_-

I've used the GIMP for years now, and like to think I know my way around it. As someone who never really got into Photoshop that much, I don't mind its interface.

To simplify:

When it comes to 'acquiring' a copy of PS, anything from 7 onward is fine in my opinion. There aren't many changes aside from GUI updates after 7 as far as I can tell. Wacom tablets have been supported since that version and I can't tell you how much those will improve your work if you like to sketch.

I'm currently working on my own website to showcase 2D and 3D artwork as an online portfolio. If you'd like, I could toss up a few articles once in a while to teach some of my techniques. More than anything, I'd love to set aside a section as a sort of CT Art Collective for all of us.
