So I had an idea to write a series of self-contained posts about the effects of the nextgen on gaming as a whole with it all leading up to my predictions for how the PS4/XboxOne generation will be handled. I plan to focus on PC and handheld/mobile as well as consoles, in an attempt to present a well-rounded idea. What I will NOT be discussing is BLAH is a better game then BLAH or PC>All, or even something as common as xbox vs playstation. I will attempt to check my bias at the door, and while I don't expect the same of any who read this and want to respond; I ask that you try to keep things civil and provide examples examples to back up your claims.

Now, before I get into specifics of this generation, I want to look back at the xbox/playstation2/gamecube era as those two consoles shaped how gaming will evolve, the most for this upcoming generation.

Each one of those consoles brought something new to the table, but by far the most influential is the xbox. While the game library of the playstation dwarfed that of the xbox, and the party factor of the gamecube was unrivaled, it was xbox who would come out with the most influential game and concept of this generation.

Back in 2004, we got a treat with a game coming out that changed how we looked at multiplayer. That game was Halo 2 and with it it brought Xbox Live. While other systems had online capability, and surely the PC always had it, it was the xbox that gave us the most reliable way of utilizing it. One could sit in the comfort of their homes and frag people for days on maps such as Coagulation or Zanzibar. People who played on xbox live automatically became better at LAN parties, they had to be shifted to their own team with the weakest players to "balance" stuff out. For me, Halo 2 was THE LAN game to play, and countless hours of pizza, soda, and battle rifles were spent during my high school years. I am sure I wasn't the only one. It was because of Xbox Live that we now have gaming as it is with matchmaking, and every console even handhelds having online play.

Which isn't to say the other consoles didn't have their own influence over gaming.

The PS2 gave us amazing titles such as God of War, Devil May Cry, Kingdom Hearts, and Shadow of the Collosus. All of these games despite being exclusives helped push gaming into various directions that helped evolve gaming into what it is now. To me, the Playstation has always been the experimental console. Not every one was a hit, but the few that were stood out like atatme in a snipers crosshairs: Grand, magnificent, and constantly yelling for attention.

The Gamecube actually had serious games on it's list with Resident Evil 4, and Jedi Knights: Jedi Outcast II. For the most part it was an extension of the N64 which wasn't a bad thing. It also gave rise to the All-Star mashup games with Super Smash Bros. which continues on to today, all though taking a new genre for it's home.

During this time PC gaming was also on the rise, especially with the release of WoW, Half Life 2, Morrowind, and so on that would signal a revolution in gaming.

Future installments will be in a different fashion with me looking into less of what the console did for gaming, but more analysis of trends and what it means for the future. Also feel free to let me know what you think, what you want to see, and if you want me to continue this thread or just post a new one when I have a new section,.

A lof of people seems to be complaining about the Xbox One for no reason. I just can't get it whats the point of so much rant over their reveal event. They clearly said it was only console and side stuff and E3 all about games. Now every Youtuber seems to have their own opinion why MS should have revealed everything now and then just make a meh E3 event. It's much better and smarter this way.

I for one would want a kinect tv and all the extra stuff by just waving your hands. No longer trying to find a remote in middle of night ect. I think it will be a big thing next generation, if they have managed to make it work great. It's just one of those things that people go "oh it's nothing, all about games blaaahhhh", but if you have something build in and it makes things little easier and more conviniend to use, then you will most likely continue to use the console even if you stop playing with it. I think many people haven't seen the potential yet, but in the end are very glad if they have it and woudn't want it to be removed/missing(one machine to do them all, like smartphones ect.).

I think the Xbox will be a console for western gamers. All of the important games are now on Xbox360 and MS has done great job at taking its place as serious contender. Plus 15 exclusive games 1st year from MS games studios is pretty big thing. I doubt paying for Live is a problem, because the service is crealy better than Sony's.

Anyway went from Nes, Playstation, Gamecube and now PS3. Will probably buy new console once the price drops a lot and all the good games are released. Currently I'm interested in Xbox because of Remedys new game for it.
