Bonner station update!

User-posted image

Build progress album.

After moving to my current apartment this summer, I ended up getting a real desk (to replace the card table I'd been using) and decided I wanted to free up some space on it by hanging my computer on the wall. So I stayed late at work several nights before I took my trip, and made a tray of sorts that could be wallmounted.

The tray has the motherboard mounted to it, with hard drives and pump sitting on a shelf at the bottom. Reservoir is mounted above the pump. Radiator to the right, set up on rising brackets. Behind the tray, on either side, are two vertical wood strips that get attached to the wall. I spaced them such that they span the distance from one wall stud to the next, so they attach to the wall very firmly.

To mount the whole thing, the strips get screwed to the wall, and then the tray bolts onto them when its ready to go up. That way I was able to attach all the components and run cables before putting it up. It was a breeze. Also, if I ever move it, the wear and tear from several rounds of screws won't be visible, as that business happens on the strips, and not the tray.

Making this was a total blast, but waiting a month before I had the time to finish it was frustrating. I'm already thinking about how I could do it differently if I ever wanted to. I also need to run a usb snake with a breakout box at the end of my desk, as well as a power switch mount.

I hope lego has emptied his trash by now
