So, I have a computer I'm working on and it's pretty strange. I'm chalking it up to a virus but wanted to hear opinions.

This laptop is running the Win 7 OS and seems relatively new. However, it is slow. Much slower than it should be.

The major problem is that the Flash player needs to be up to date. Pretty simple.

Flash cannot download from their site.
Computer only has IE (9? Possibly 8. Don't remember).
It is impossible to download any other browser. You can download files but not any browser or anti virus software. Very strange. (I've tried this from every site imaginable).

I downloaded the update on another computer and transferred it to the laptop. Flash is updated. But, it still doesn't work. Baffling.

I transferred two Anti Virus software. One installed and found nothing, the other wouldn't let me past the Agreement to Terms page.

Reformatting seems ideal, but I don't have the Win7 disks or the product key. I *can* get it although through *other* channels.

Thoughts?

It's a virus. It seems to do the same thing as the old "Antivirus 2009" virus. I remember my dad's laptop had the same exact problem as you are having and it was due to "Antivirus 2009". The only thing you can do is reinstall windows completely. Although you must install through a disc. I believe I had to set the DVD-R drive to boot before everything else otherwise the virus wouldn't allow any programs to install.

Your product key should be here:

Edit: Although I'm not sure, that may be something determine from the key without being the original. But I think there's ways to recover the existing key anyway.

Did you try starting Windows in safe mode? That'd disable anything unnecessary, including possibly said virus, unless it's somehow made itself considered necessary.

I have a bootable usb that has a preinstalled environment complete with a shit load of tools. If I can find the name of it I'll let you know what it is. One particular useful took is one that will give you keys for windows and most programs.

Yeah, the Safe Mode didn't work either. For whatever reason, I can't install unless I'm "Connected to internet".

Really freaking weird.

I want to just reformat it. But it isn't mine and since they lost their disks, /shrug. Not having the code doesn't help any either.

So it's pretty much a compound problem. I need the disks, need the key.

In order to get the disk, I'd need to get like a Win7 torrent for the software. Then take the torrent, and burn it to a disk and then use that disk to boot off of. Then preferably use their key, commence the reformatting.

Freaking hell.

your DNS is being redirected - you can actually clean that though takes some effort - but a lot less than reformat bullshit

run the "CMD" command and in the black box type:

ipconfig /all

then report the Primary and Secondary DNS' being reported (this is why you cant do shit online)

then I can help you disinfect it

EDIT: I'm going to PM you my phone number if you want help

Ah, I was forced to do the reformat. I was requested to just go ahead and do it to get everything off of there.

I was kind of hoping to dissect the DNS as you were referring to. But much appreciated sir!
