So you can install stuff on SSD harddrive? Like if I went and bought a SSD harddisk and installed windows on it and it would just work with regular harddrives that would have all the other stuff?

So is SSD flash harddrive like regular harddrive but much more expensive and faster?

Would 8gb be enough for windows 7?

I run a 30GB SSD for my boot drive. You'll probably want at least that much. All I have on mine is the very basics (Windows, Firefox, Flash Player, etc) and the space used gets to a size of about 27GB+ pretty fast with all of the temporary files that are stored on it during operation. I run it alongside a normal HDD just fine.

There are a few things to remember about SSDs. For example, the read speed is incredible, which means absolutely everything loads lightning-quick, but the write speed on them is slower than an HDD. If you plan to use it as a boot drive for Windows or for storing and running your games, it handles those jobs nicely. I wouldn't recommend making it a workhorse for something like Photoshop. Also, I understand that to maximize compatibility, it's good to have your SSD and your HDD be the same brand.

I have a pretty similar setup to what Vlad described. 60 gb ssd mainly for system files, and a few velociraptors for music/the bulk of my programs. I love it.

Keep in mind you should never defrag a ssd. Windows defrag is disabled on any ssd, but make sure you dont do so manually either. Fragmentation is purely a mechanical drive issue (spinning parts), and if I remember correctly, defragging can shorten the life of a solid state drive.

Keep your pagefile on your HDD, make sure you are in AHCI mode, and turn off drive indexing on the SSD - here are some other tips:

To answer the first couple questions, yes, it'll work fine -- and it's amazing, PCs with a HDD as their main drive feel like crap after using an SSD. I'm running two SSDs (one 128GB for Windows+programs, one 512GB with games on it even though that only helps with loading times) and I have a 2TB HDD and 4TB of backup HDD space... I'd never ever go back to using HDDs for any programs.

My 128GB is this:

It's great and super fast.

I'm going to go with that 60gb thing, but is it really that important that I have to buy same brand SSD as my HDDs are?

And I'm just going to install Windows and some essential drivers and nothing else. So no games or anything else. My main point doing is this that I can open up my computer faster and that I can use is almoust right away when it opens in windows.

Does it really brake the SSD if I defrag it or if I'm super drunk and accidently defrag everything and how would I prevent it from happening...

It won't break it, but there's no benefit to defragging it, since it directly accesses data instead of spinning a disk around (which takes longer if one file is fragmented around the disk). With older ones all the writes from a defrag would harm the SSD's lifespan (flash memory has limited writes), but nowadays you don't really need to worry about that.

Running different brands isn't supposed to be the problem it once was. Support for the new technology has really improved. I just say this as a precaution if you want no risks at all. I run different brands and I've had a few crashes here and there. I'm not sure if I could blame it on the SSD/HDD thing. Correlation does not necessarily indicate causation as I like to say.

This thing is amazing. Stuff loads so fast you can't even look or focus on anything else.

I'm thinking about buying more of these stuff, how are the OCZ brand?

Strange problem. My old hdds are freezing for like 2 seconds every once in a while.

I'm guessing it's because I run Windows on my SSD and all the other programs too. Can be quite annoing even if SSD is much faster, but it makes it look like some cheap computer that has hard time running my stuff. Is there any fix for this or some way I could make it work better with my HDDs(my SSD and HDDs are all Samsung)?

Go here for whatever power plan you're using and make sure this is set to "Never." It might not fix your problem, but my (brand-new and fast) data HDD was taking forever to access anything unless I had recently, and this solved it:
