Apparently Square Enix is developing a PC RTS, which makes absolutely no sense to me since they are based in Japan and have traditionally made RPGs for the last two decades.

Why not eastern front? It would be a lot better and offers so many different battles. Or pacific.

The game could be a better version of Company of Heroes with no base building. I like that idea. Just copy the CoH and the World in Conflict's online multiplayer and you have a best rts there is.

Because it's designed for Americans, of course. Sometimes it seems like the only war that occured was from 1942-1945 and it was limited to North Africa and West/Southern Europe. The pacific is usually omitted, and I've never quite figured out why. Maybe because a lot of the contemporary opposition to Japan was racially motivated? Or maybe it's the great US-Japan relationship after the war.

What I'd like to see is a great strategic simulation of the early war. You know, Panzer II's and III's duking it out with Matildas and Chars, alongside infantry that don't have really effective ranged AT weapons. That's where blitzkrieg happened, you know. Or how about the Winter War? Asymmetircal warfare is notoriously hard to do, but it's been done well before.

Seriously, though, does anyone know of any good recent titles dealing with the less famous parts of WWII? Until then, I'm sticking with Steel Panthers and Panzer General.

They are not rts but every ww2 Call of Duty included the eastern front and World at War had pacific theater. For rts you guys might want to look at Men of War.

Do you really think gamers could keep from pushing the big red button?

I didn't think so.

That would actually be a pretty good time, if you got to try and outpace the other's military industrial complex and eventually try and storm the other nation, instead of it just being a 'cold war.' More like what if the cold war actually was a war?

I don't think it would have lasted long.

It would really be fun to play this out though

You read the whole thing? It's quite impressively detailed,

Anyway, that unsuprisingly won an award from the alternate history site.

Yeah read it all the way down to the end. Very cryptic - very possible, for that time too. The author has a incredible sense of history.
