My son and I pwned at a black powder event today. I took first prize - the damascus knife shown below.

1st place prize - on a fur pouch I made for my son.

My son Jack. he turned 12 last month. Yes, the rifle is as almost tall as he is. Smile

A "possibles" bag i made from scratch.

The targets. (the soda cans filled with water were great targets! look at the gaping hole in the cardboard.)

I was even 2 for 2 on poker chips at 75'. Only 4 were hit all day! Very Happy Only missed one shot per event tops - and by less than 1/2" on both my misses.

It rocked! Go join a club, and start shooting muzzle loaders now!

No bruises. The black powder rifles are more of a push than a kick. Very gentle compared to a 7mm magnum hunting rifle... They just make a lot of smoke an racket. Very Happy

Then go shoot it! Gun Pirate

I just got some of my "undehammer" parts. I am going to start making my own black powder guns.

I am thinking something like these two for my first project:

Rifle kits go from $200 up. I love my Traditions Firearms pieces, but their kits are not my favorites of their rifles. The St. Louis might not be too bad. The double set triggers rock!

I am building my pistol from scratch. might be more than I can handle... Hopefully not. I should have started with a kit probably...

Here is a good site for kits and all stuff muzzleloading:
http://www.dixiegunworks.com/default.php?cPath=22_162_192
They were quick at shipping a bunch of other stuff for me.

Of course Cabela's is always in front for everything...
http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/compchart/comp-chart.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/index/index-body.jsp.6_A&_DAV=false&chartName=trd_blk_pwdr_rfl&backLink=/cabelas/en/templates/index/index-display.jsp%3Fid%3Dcat20815&backTitle=Rifles&cmCat=netcon&cm_ven=netcon&cm_cat=&cm_pla=&cm_ite=netcon&hasJS=true

My Uncle passed away. I got his M1 Garand. I just handloaded 10 rounds. My first reloads ever... Confused If i go quiet, it is because his gun or my bullets weren't up to snuff. Wink

King Phillip's war folk still had pikes and halberds to compliment gunners - matchlocks were still kicking then. Even still used crossbows. Wheel lock pistols were supposedly the shiz.

Both my rifles are .50s. I am considering a .32cal pistol.

Shooting is expensive. Especially with all those guys in Montana hoarding ARs, ammo etc. Wink

I shudder to think about what the other members of your fencing and sword-fighting clubs must look like by now.
