Check this shit out.

http://kotaku.com/5181300/onlive-makes-pc-upgrades-extinct-lets-you-play-crysis-on-your-tv

Basically it streams whatever game you want to play from a ultra-fast computer, so you can play Crysis on your shitty old dell 8300. They say to have lag down to nothing but that'll ultimately be the real test.

But can it run the PC version of GTA IV smoothly?

Anyway I can imagine lag being a big issue; the streaming video has to show the results of your input IMMEDIATELY for it to work. No matter how fast it is, it's still gonna take longer to reveive input and send video back than for results to be displayed on a local system.

Does it blend? Surprised

No, seriously, this won't work. No support for mods, etc. Can I define my custom controls? Change settings, and have them stay permanent? And hell, if my internet connection goes out, the first thing I do is fire up a game to keep busy.

As USAF mentioned, the bandwidth problems alone will cripple the system. The only people this service could entice are console gamers looking to save money (I guess); PC users will rebel. There's violent protests online about the implementation of DRM; this would give players even less control of the software they're spending money on. On a personal level, I hate subscription fees and have never paid any to play my games. You have a subscription fee, you won't sell me your game.

Lastly, I'd want to be able to use every piece of hardware I've attached to my computer to play my games. Example: My surround speaker system at home for games that support 5.1, and my second monitor. I'm doubtful OnLive will stream me 6 channels of sound, and I'm also doubtful they'll send me two video streams that I can flawlessly play on.

Good idea; won't work with the current market/technology.
