I've been having quite a few problems with the default LG775 heatsink, and I want to know what would be the best replacement short of Liquid Cooling? hopefully somthing that stays on the board easily, cause mine keeps slipping off.

also some other questions:

1. is there any advantage of using aluminum case fans over normal case fans?

2. what is the better combo overall: 1 xfx geforce 6800gs SLIed with a EVGA 6800gs, or simply two BFG geforce6600GT OCX's SLIed?

3. back to the fans, is there any particularly well performing RED LED fans? mine don't seem to be cooling too well.

if your heatsink is slipping off, you have either

A: not installed it correctly

or

B: the clips are broken

Or the clip receiver on the mobo is broken << speaking from experience... Super glued u-bolt thingy ftw! If it was broke you could clearly see why.

I would definitely check to make sure it is installed right as those heat sinks are getting VERY tricky. Is it maybe rotated 90-degrees out of proper alignment or something?

New heat sink folks are competing against the CD wrapper manufacturers for "most frustrating" design.

till u get to the new amd sockets... gettin those in is a breeze

as for the question, aluminum case fans prolly wouldnt make a diff

and u might wanna make sure that first combo would work, afaik the manufacturers have to match to run in sli b/c the bastards like to set odd gpu clock speeds so you have to buy THEIR vid card to run in sli (which is why i liek ati's approach better, but at the same time, im running nvidia, lol)

but im pretty sure the 6800s would be faster

but its all about the same as a 7800 gt (or gtx, the diff is ~ 5% give or take)

edit: missed a q: as for the red fans, if it says thermaltake, its usually good shit, same with the heatsink/fan combo

Aluminum is probably the best metal for getting heat off something, copper is supposed to heat up and now work as well as aluminum for getting rid of the heat.

As far as the SLI video cards, as far as I have heard you have to have the exact same card for it to work.

Copper is definately much better at dispersing heat in heatsinks, but plastic fans all the way. You don't want fans to absorb and dissipate heat, you want them to push air around and cause flow.

2x6800gs would win, probably because you could do pipe unlocks.

Firefox is right 100% - you probably didn't install the heatsink right. As I said several times I have experience with the stock heatsinks for LGA775s and they're fine, but they're hard to get in. Make sure they're in all the way and don't turn them too hard, but hard enough so they squeak a bit.
