somthing I've come across on my searches on newegg is somthing I find to be a bit interesting: Modular power supplies. The idea is that rather than all the cords present all at once , you plug in a particular cord into the back of the PSU as you need it (example, you need another prephial you plug in a prephial into one of its ports on the PSU)

however I want to ask: is this worth it or not?

I bought one not long ago

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1273336&CatId=106

It was 59.99 back then....anyway, as far s the modular thing, i use all but one or two of the cords

The awesome chrome finish can't be seen in my box

ditto for the cool, glowing cables

with that said, it is not something that is worth paying extra for, but the price was right when I bought this one Wink

After my build I can see its advantages:
-They look cool
-They are great for increased airflow
-They make for a neater case

What I did was just used the PSU that was included in my case and tried to sleeve some of the cables, which was a disaster and a pain in the arse. If you have the extra dinero to spend, go for it!

Hells no. Modular PSUs are, IMHO, the second-worst gimmick on the market, right behind SLI.

When they first came out I said "ooh shit shiny wow neat shit fuck imma get me one of these" .. i might have even posted about getting one. They sure look spiffy, and the idea really does sound quite fantastic. MODULAR POWERSURPLY!!!!!!!!!!!!LOLOLMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111

Then it hit me. This is one of those things that's like communism. Looks good on paper, but so impractical it blows. OK, so maybe this is a bit more practical - it's still a waste of $$$ and is not nearly as practical as it seems.

IDK about you, but with all my fans, hard drives, disk drives, and shit, most of my molex plugs are full anyway. The other TWO that are free can be zip tied to something.

Modular power supplies really cut your modding options down too. The x-connect cables suck D. It just seems like one of those things that insults handiwork.

I got one, I think it was as expensive as a regular. I would say go with it, as long as the price isn't more expensive.
They don't really make a difference for me.
